What do you hope 2021 will look like? What are your goals for the coming year?
I know how hard it is to answer these questions because we are in a pandemic. Uncertainty, desperation, isolation - what we all feel now is what a person experiencing the crisis of homelessness feels - all the time.
If you don’t know where you will live, how can you plan for what is to come? The simple answer is -- you can’t. You scramble to make sure that you are safe. You struggle to maintain any sense of normalcy. You worry constantly.
Today, a woman at MICAH House is struggling with that uncertainty. You can provide safety to a woman experiencing the crisis of homelessness. Through a generous $10,000 gift from Polina and Bob Schlott, your donation will be doubled.
Your donation provides safe shelter for a woman like Mariah.
At 51 years old, Mariah has experienced so much trauma... Her ex-husband was physically abusive. Her sister passed away from cancer. She struggles with her own health problems.
On a cold day last December, Mariah woke up in a hospital. Her continued grief over the loss of her sister caused Mariah to make self-destructive choices. After a night of drinking, she was found unresponsive. Mariah spent three days in a coma. When she woke up, she knew she needed to make a change.
Mariah worked hard, saved money, and found an affordable apartment, but the living conditions were not ideal... her neighbor’s shower leaked into her bathroom, the place was infested with bugs, and she worried for her health and safety.
This apartment was Mariah’s last option. She was on a fixed income, and she had no one she could turn to for help.
Having always taken care of others, Mariah needs someone to lift her up. She needs you. She needs a chance to start over.
In our community, there are strong women struggling to make ends meet. They are survivors, but they are barely making it. Women come to MICAH House alone. They don’t have the support of their families and friends and are working to rebuild relationships.
That’s why your support is so vital. A strong woman like Mariah needs to find stability. She needs to address her health issues and the loss of her sister to overcome the hurdles she still faces. Mariah needs to know that she is safe today and secure tomorrow.
Your gift will help a woman, like Mariah, who has no where else to go. Your support can provide her with a safe place to sleep. Your contribution gives her a warm meal to eat. Your support will help her rediscover her strength.
